Kentucky Bourbon Distillers does not actually distill any whiskey, they purchase bulk whiskey (typically from Heaven Hill) and bottle it under various labels. Their bottling operation is located in the former Willett Distillery.
Nose of gingerbread, with lots of bakery tones. Palate is rather dry, and with a moderate level of rye spice. Sesame seeds come and go. The wood needs more restraint here, but this is a tasty if tannic rye. I'll drink yours. B
Retaste: (This just goes to show that while I usually find my palate pretty consistent, it definitely is different on different days. Another great reason to read lots of tasting notes, and take all ratings with a grain of salt). Nose is orangey for a rye, and tending more towards bourbon. Palate is quite sweet, vibrant for 21 years. Caramel corn in nose and palate. Dries out in the finish, with some coconut. More like a really good ryed bourbon than a rye. Wood is well balanced and not too tannic. (!) A- (!)
A very good full flavored rye with cinnamon and lots of oak. Consistent with the other 20+ year releases in the "Vintage" series, the wood might be too much for some, but I like it.
