Extremely delicious and drinkable. My favorite of the Pappy line. Personally I've enjoyed the recent incarnations over the years about equally, whether with Stitzel-Weller or Buffalo Trace juice. B+/A-

Nose:  Hot and a bit fumy for its abv, underneath the burn there's a lot going on, wood, fruit and caramel.

Palate:  Wow!  Full of flavor.  Polished wood, fruit flavored hard candy, with the traditional Pappy/BT citrus coming on late palate and fading into the finish where it meets up with some more herbal notes.  Still runs a bit hot, but water doesn't do it any favors, breaking it down into acidic and bitter flavors and giving it an oily mouthfeel.

It's not much for balance but it's very tasty and packs some good flavor if you can cut through the heat.

N: Sawdust, not as rich as I recall, we'll see if it opens up.   And it does!  Syrupy wheat.
P: Sweet and carmeled, like a bourbony Werther's Original candy.
F: Lip smacking, a little chocolate.

N: Delightfully sweet - maple syrup, light oakiness, a hint of warm brown sugar. Light hint of nutmeg and some cinnamon. Pleasing black tea tannins.

P: Rich, syrupy mouthfeel. Sweet at entry with some nice wood; a little gentle corn; tons of maple syrup, brown sugar, and a little cinnamon heat in the background.

F: Warm initially with some black tea tannins, cooling to leave cinnamon, gentle oak, more maple syrup and brown sugar. A hint of black cherry on the finished tucked away.

Nothing not to like here.

My favorite of the Pappys. Great price point.

Red-golden amber color. The nose has tons of vanilla (which mellows out with some oxygen), sweet mature oak, and caramel aka S-W profile. On the palate I think this one gets really good with some air -- very tasty with a decent balance between oak and the candy flavors. The candy lingers. The finish is incredible, one of my favorites. I always can feel it all the way down my throat. 2009 release. [11/2/13]
