Nose of caramel, and rather farty -- fartiness does not always designate a bad thing... some farts are great! And that's the case with Bunna 18. The medium-bodied and smooth palate is caramel, caramel, caramel. Yum! B/B+
N: A very raw sherry in the figgy style. P: Dry powder sherry, some lurking fruit and burnt notes. F: Peanuts! Wow, really long and nutty aftertaste. Quite interesting.
Boo! I'm not generally a fan of Bunnahabhain, so take this for what it's worth, but this only salvages a C+ because I followed it with the 25 which was worse.
n: fig newtons, caramel covered green apple, and ocean air. Nice chocolate and dark cherries with a faint note of burnt paper smoke. Very inviting red fruit nose and iced gingerbread man cookie.
t: Dried dark red fruits and a bit of balsamic; salted figs and vanilla wafers in the middle. Hint of toffee and dark chocolate in finish. Stays rich and malty but doesn't get candy sweet and has a bit sour/savoury note. The Islay smoke and salt balances the sherry cask nicely. The smoke starts to show more assertively in the finish.
Tastes like a Speyside with smoke and sea air influence; an interesting and savoury whisky.
