Delicious sweet peat, fruit, and chocolate, with so much other rich stuff in the phenols/earthy range that I can't describe it, I just wanna drink it. Rough edges of youth are part of the experience and obviously the flavor. A-/B+
A cheap, simple, yummy classic. Smoke and earth that stick to what the Froyg does best then hammers quickly to a nice finish. Best one dimension for $30, hands down. BTW, this tastes twice as good with a campfire.
Sweet aromas and peat on the nose, then a little gauze and clay. The palate is salty with iodine, rich dried fruit, maybe figs, and quite salty. The finish is salty seaweed. One to savor. Hated it the first time I ever had it. It's an old friend now.
Big on peat and medicinal notes with alot of brine. Definitely an A if you take cost into account. Great value for your money and one I will always have open and available on hand. I gave this a C+ when tasting it semi blind against 16 other laphroaigs. Most of them alot older and some from sherry casks. So it didnt get a fair shake going against 15-30 year olds.
N: Strongly medicinal, a baked and almost biscuity undetone, bacon; hint of wood.
P: Briny, smoky, peat; smooth, gentle on the palate, more medicinal and some bacony flavors.
F: Slow, languid, delightfully medicinal, becoming more smoky and peaty. A recurrence of brine.
It's a can't-miss Islay. You'll either love it or hate it. I love it. Don't be in a rush with this one in the botte - it develops nicely over a couple of months, with the bacon note increasing after a while. Later it becomes incredibly creamy and rich.
n: sweet and dank peat smoke; full on medicinal and phenolic. Sea brine doused plastic toys on fire. Leather and sea salt but full of smoke and a sweet youthful character.
t: Smoky, tastes like the nose with more seashore characters like toasted seaweed and salty brine. Thin in the mouthfeel and the middle tapers quickly to sweet peat smoke and salt. Tastes quite young with a lot of vegetation notes. Finish is charred wood and bacon fat. This is a nice Islay peat monster, but I'd spend the extra $ for the Cask Strength version.
