For years, I've been yelling at people who claim they can blindly identify Stitzel-Weller whiskeys. But this one came along randomly in a blind tasting, and I was certain that's what it was. The profile is just unmistakeable. Rich, deep, good stuff, the way they don't make it anymore.

My main objection here is that there are a few rough edges of youth, some alcohol-y edges in the finish that extra aging would likely smooth away. I'd guess these barrels were sourced from higher up in the rickhouses, because there's a lot of wood on here for just 7 years old. Which is great, because as a whole it's so damn good that the few low points don't matter. A/A-

The nose is caramel, corn and oak.  The palate is this sweet but rich liquid caramel and it finishes with honey.

This one really shows everything great about Stitzel-Weller.  It's soft and sweet and amazingly drinkable.
