Early 2000's bottling.
N: Brown sugar, layered malt, hint of berries.
P: Malt, caramel, light bodied, with a bit of oil, quite enjoyable...
F: Lasting, sugar.

Circa 2009
N: Faint, a hint of wet stones, lemon.
P: Quite flinty, a sharp attack with lots of minerals and that delightful plastic taste distinctive to Springers.
F: Some caramel sugar but the mineral aspects are what linger.
You can really taste the foundation here from some of those great old Springbanks.  Stick this in a sherry cask and wait 15 more years and I'll be in heaven.

A trip to Mt. Toomuchcarmel.  Not worth the hike.  Has a hint of the typical Springbank spiciness fighting to get through the bland carmel, but generally incredibly disappointing.  Springbank, shame on you.

ahhhhh....but I like Mt. Toomuchcaramel and I have trained for that hike extensively!!  This one is very nice and classic Springbank.  Although all of the normal 10 year flavors are there, it just about matches the 10 year for quality and goodness.  I would spend my money on the 10 year or splurge on the 10 year "100 proof" for a slightly better Malt.

Pine needles in the nose, sandalwood hints. Palate is mildly sweet, apple-y, with vanilla and a moderate honey-spice zing. Light hints of mustard. Tasty and very easy to spend the night with a large glass or two.  (Bottling ~2008/9)

Black/ green label (pictured): C

Metallic lemon water. Honey covered warm biscuits. Hints of cut green grass.  Bitter pomelo finish

Cream label: B-

N: Lots of maltiness, dry grass, lightly peated with a lemon zest

P: Initially kind of stale with hints of yeast.  Mid palate gets more bready with toffee notes

F: Medium finish with loads of caramel and hints of oak

Ries

n: Dried red fruits from the sherry influence, buttered biscuits and more dried cherries. Nice wood/oak and smoked grey sea salt on the nose.

t: Ash and smoke, briney fruit cocktail mix, and pink grapefruit. Caramel, wheat bread and vanilla notes, with white pepper. Nice salty tropical fruit and a unique peat smoke taste in the finish. A fruity and delicious Springbank that represents the current distillery characteristics well.
