The nose was somewhat bland to me and rye centric. But, wow, the palate was delicious. Rich chocolate, citrus, unique wood notes, spice cabinet flavors all wrapped up nicely for a very well balanced expression. Also, as an aside, this vats well 50/50 with Sazerac 18 -- probably better than either alone. B+/A- [11/24/2013]
n: dill pickle brine and fresh pumpernickle bread. Burnt toffee, caraway seeds, and a general warm deliciousness. Cocoa powder, dried cranberries, and old wet wood.
t: rye spice, dill pickle brine, and old oak; quite powerful and extreme but this combo of flavours and ABV makes for a great whiskey. Dried orange peel soaked in black tea in the middle. Burnt toast and black liquorice in the finish. Delicious and high-proof but drinks like a sipper.
This was the standout when I tasted the entire 2013 BTAC range.
