Nose of eucalyptus and the oil I got rubbed with at my last massage at the Four Seasons. Palate has mild fullness, some sherry-like components dominate. Finish lingers moderately, more of the same. A mouth-filling and mild whisky, not great not bad. C
Retaste: Great caramel nose. Fiddich gets a bad rap, but this is tasty, well-rounded, and yes, designed to be inoffensive. Well, I'm not offended and I pretty much like it. B-
N: Nothing....wait, something...no nothing. P: Oily and organic, fleeting malty taste. Very delicate or tasteless? I think tasteless. F: Velvety and mouth coating, the only positive note.
Nose: It's nice, subtle but has some stuff going on here - little vanilla, cinnamon, some apple, raisins, creme brulee (spelling?) little sherry perhaps?
Palate: Hoo doggy - this thing just sort of fell apart. I found the nose shy but inviting, but there isn't much on the palate. It's sweet, light cinnamon burn and that's all she wrote.
Finish: More of the same as on the palate. Except even less. Light and fleeting - leaves a bittersweet chocolate touch but nothing remarkable.
I'm giving this a C+ because I really enjoyed the light complexity of the nose. If that nose wasn't there it would be a solid C/C-. It's not great whisky but it's certainly not bad whisky, it's stuck right in the middle. It's a little generic except for that nose - if the palate and finish were anything like the nose, for me, it would get a much higher rating. Worth a try, but not a must buy.
n: oaky and cohesive spice and leather. Lightly fruity (mostly dried pears and golden raisins) with butterscotch and unsalted nuts. Vanilla wafers.
t: cereal malt with a nice oak influence. Spice bite (dry cinnamon and dry clove) and vanilla appear in the middle. Subtle but not bland. Finish is the lacking facet; semi-sweet, green apple, spicy pears, and dry nutmeg. Falls apart quickly at finish.
