Nose of varnish and acetone, a bit of mustyness, some caramel, something like Lawry's seasoned salt, and a nice woody background. With water it opens up much better notes of dried fruit and chocolates.
Palate... hmmm… yeah, no. Not really doin' it for me here. A somewhat synthetic flavor overall, with the "industrial" notes that turn me off from many rums. Pretty dry. Finish adds a little spice and tang, but it's mostly just heat and woody notes.
But wait!! Water really turns this on, bringing out a surprising sweetness, Indian spices, and a dried fruits, figgy character.
This pretty much sucked until I added water. Then I liked it well enough. But as far as purchasing a bottle goes, I'd say for collectible purposes only. I spent a long time with a deep pour -- and if you don't want to pay $900 for a bottle, then you can sleep well knowing you're not really missing anything. Unless you're Andy.
The nose is sweet with woody notes (tree sap, oak), anise, grain and hints of sherry. Theres a burst of cinnamon on the palate followed by maple syrup and a medium spiced mint rinish that turns rubery. A decent bottle, but not worth it.
