I've been spending a nice, relaxing evening with America's Got Talent and a bottle of this. You know what? I've never really watched that show before, and I like it a lot. The raucous audience is really entertaining and a key aspect. It's just damn fun to watch a screaming mob encourage a man to juggle 1.5 million volts of live electricity.
Why do I tell you this? I don't know, but I think if you have a glass of this nice whisky, you're gonna like America's Got Talent. Even the Americans who don't have talent.
About the whiskey. Nose is smokey as expected, in a rounded and warming way, with glue and varnish, hint of ocean and wood shavings.
Palate is pretty nice if expected, although combined with the nose it's a bit different and that ratchets up my enjoyment. A somewhat sweet and smokey number with a fruity tang beneath (guava?). Lengthy finish gets peppery and the oak gets louder with mild chewyness.
You've likely had something that tastes a lot like this and liked it. So have I, and I like this too. I also like Howie Mandel. B/B+
This has a great nose of pure Laphroaig medicinal peat. The palate starts with a promising blast of sweet peat, but falls a bit flat by mid palate. Not bad, but leaves you wanting more.
Note: I have never seen America's Got Talent so I unfortunately can't comment on this malt's compatibility with that program.
