Nose: Very light, alcohol fumes, kerosene. Palate: This is actually one of the few Bourbons that is better on the palate than on the nose, still pretty light but with corn syrup, rock candy. The finish is nice and Bourboney. Light and easy to drink but it doesn't come together that well and the nose is weak, though I still like it better than the modern incarnation.
N: Starts off on glue, with some orange and cinnamon lurking in the background. P: Starts off kinda cool and refreshing (sort of watery and sweet), but the overall flavor is sort of odd, mainly wood, with an earthiness that's not so great. F: A little rye spice emerges above the woodiness but it fades quickly. When I think to myself "I could drink the rest of the glass, but its not worth the calories", that's not a good sign.
Very light color. Light fruit notes, similar (but better) to the current release. The palate has some vanilla and spice. Drinkable. C+/B-. Circa early 1980s bottling. [3/10/13]
