N: Farmy, wet dog, rich peat, lots of iodine, a little gunpowder, then some ripe berries, blueberries, black licorice, a whiff of sulfur. P: Lovely peat, citrus, very rich and mouth coating, the sugar is heavy on the tongue. Wow. Immensely drinkable and delicious. F: Peppery, lemon and orange, then very medicinal on the finish. No oak even detectable!
Retaste June 2010: Still a big fan, very big for 40% abv. I noted camphor and motor oil in the nose. The rest of my notes were oddly profane and I won't repeat them here, but the gist was that I liked the "dirtiness" of the malt.
Nose of honey, grapes, toffee, and tires. Palate is decent but kinda unremarkable: mostly very light peat, peppery. What a shame this was bottled at 40%. B/B+
Nose of sweet sherry with subtle smoke. On the palate you get hit first with sherry and grapes, almost syrupy with light peat, then peat on the finish. A good solid Ardbeg but another I wish were higher abv.
