The nose is pungent and "red." Floral and very-berry -- raspberries, dried cherries, cranberries. Syrupy scents mix in with unusual medicinal wisps. Oh, and this is very grapey (both real and artificial) and port-y. The palate is odd yet very distinctive, tough do describe, enigmatic. Cherry cough drops (Pine Bros), shiso leaf, notes of port, and there's definitely a big, grape-y thing going on. Everything you'd expect from the nose is here. Finish is very long. Truly unique, and like all the exceptional Springbanks I've tried, this one evades description... but how about: YUM. YUM. WOW. An onslaught of originality.
N: Caramelized blood oranges, rancio , a little rubber, cotton candy, and opium incense. Huge nose! P: Wow, very complex fruit with some roasted and waxy notes, a little rubbery, maybe a bit of sherry cask sulfur but it actually manages to elevate rather than detract. Very enjoyable. F: Completely unique, the fruit surges but with oddly delicious burnt plastic nose emanating from the exhale. It's pretty clear why people go nuts over this stuff and the auction prices get so high. It's just so unique.
