Quite a sweet and corn-y nose for a bourbon. The palate -- oh, the palate. This is good stuff. Very smooth and drinkable, yet with a sweet candy-corn flavor that's a bit more complex than it sounds, with subtle spice waves in the background. Finish is long and never gets too hot. Anyone can like this. And especially for the price, the people who drink their whatever-on-the rocks should be drinking this. Let me spell it out for you: ditch your Maker's and join the rest of us. Winner! A-/A
Barrel no. 566 Barreled on 8/17/95 Bottled 10/7/05
N: Strong rye, a little tobacco. P: Dry, crisp, and clean rye. F: A little sweetness emerges. Well, those notes seem rather mundane, but that's what this whiskey is...just a decent ordinary uncomplicated whiskey.
Nose: pure and sweet, candy with wood. Palate: Nicely balanced corn sweetness with wood, a silky smooth mouthfeel. Finish: Corn syrupy with some fruit notes.
Well balanced and subtle with a sophistication lacking in most of the earlier EWSBs. It would have been fun to try this one at barrel strength. B/B+
