Nose of toffee and sherry. Palate is tannic, rather rich, and medium-to-full-bodied. Flavors of coffee and cocoa/dark chocolate, bittersweet toffee. Very mild sweetness, quite dry and woody. There's also something vaguely chemical. Finish is medium-short and continues the theme. A little water makes this sweeter and better. Decent and mouth-filling.
N: Sweet nose of dried fruits and wine. Honey and mint, green apple skins and wet rocks.
P: Sweet, tart and lightly bitter on the palate. Good density. more of the green apple skin with brown pears and grapefruit. There's a slight funk to it.
F: Medium finish. Waxy bitter citrus.
I really liked the nose. If the taste would have held up, this would be a B+
n: malt and hard toffee, oatmeal with plump golden raisins. Light hint of those orange gummy candies that are coated in sugar and smouldering match.
t: liquid varnished oak that moves to red berry jam and orange creamsickle. Moves to a pastry like sweetness then goes to dry oak, and baked pear with a hint of smokey ash. Oily mouthfeel heavy on the sherry cask influence. Finish is lemon bars with powdered sugar on top and settles on the sherried oak at the end.
[B/B+ :: a tannic/bitter note in the middle keeps it from a B+]
