n: honey and boiled cherries, leather bound books, cereal malts and bit of green grass.
t: chai spice, full of black currants. Middle is dark, dried fruits and overripe plums. Middle has a sour cherry note and scalded cream. Finish is port soaked leather, vanilla soy, and milk chocolate, with more oak and slight licorice.
Nose: Stewed Red Fruits, Heather Honey, Molasses, Caramel Red Apple. It's nice, not explosive but good.
Palate: Thick mouthfeel, sherry syrup but not overpowering, fruity maple sugar flavor, clove/all spice, sultana/dark currants.
Finish: Warm and tasty, sherry but not overpowering, nice balance throughout, warm going down.
I enjoyed this whisky a lot. This is by far my favorite Wemyss bottling I've had to date. I think that a slightly higher ABV would push this over the top for me. If you like Sherried whiskies it's a nice example. It's easy to drink and pleasant, has nice balance, and is very approachable. B/B+ for me.
