Launched exclusively in global travel retail, Brodir is aged initially in ex-bourbon barrels, before being finished in European oak ex-ruby port casks.
Initial is black grapes, sea brine, burnt black cherry, and caramel. Black raisins with typical Laphroaig phenols in middle. Black liquorice and mustard seeds in middle. Dry vanilla oak and more sweetness in finish. The wood char asserts itself at the tail end of the long finish. Enjoyable with ash and dried black fruit.
Usually I dislike port finishes, but this one worked and I enjoyed this expression though it is quite unusual for the distillery style.
