It's a great malt. Excellent? No. Just great. Not a lot of complexity here, mostly a down-the-middle sherried number with a little gunpowder on the nose. The ABV is high, but water didn't make me enjoy it more. I think I went in biased expecting a little more, because I'm partial towards Glen Elgin and this also received some high ratings elsewhere. Still thrilled to drink it any day.
The nose has big sulfur notes on top of dry sherry. The palate is has a sweeter sherry note keeping the sulfur more in check. It makes for a nicely balanced whisky with a fruity/asky finish.
