Jim Murray named it Canadian Whisky of the Year in his 2012 Whisky Bible.
Formerly known as “Special Reserve”, the recipe, however, is the same, a selection of less than 1 percent of the stock available to the company, notably including some spicy rye whisky.
n: deeper vanilla, buttery rye spice, pleasant nose. Spearmint (almost like faint Mentholatum™), new phonebook.
t: soft and quite sweet with rye notes, but not very spicy. Middle is where it falls apart for me because the simple syrup sweetness takes over. Finish has some notes of wood paneling and vanilla caramel. The alcohol flavour is subdued and has a bit of bread and butter pickle with moist dark rye bread. If you like a sweet rye, then this one is for you.
