A new(ish) Campbeltowner owned by Springbank. This is the 10 year old release from Glengyle distillery, released as part of the Kilkerran Work in Progress series. This is the bourbon-aged expression.
n: sweet nose of leather and hard cheese rind. Smells like old plastic/vinyl raincoat. Some heather and malt, raw buttermilk biscuit dough, fresh cut lawn in the morning.
t: sharp and sweet malt with lemon wax and dried coconut. This is very metallic and brassy with some vanilla toffee and a dry peat smoke that rounds off the sweetness. Gravitates towards grass/vegetation notes in the finish. When left out for 30+ minutes it did improve (less grassy & sweet). This might be an interesting whisky, but I’m not sold on Kilkerran yet.
