Nosing this you get figs, sherry, maybe even balsamic vinegar, though not in a vinegary way, if that makes any sense. The palate has dry sherry notes and some earthy, rancio type notes. The finish is full of nice earthy sherry notes. This is certainly comparable to any of the standard, good sherried single malts from Scotland.
Ries

n: ripe red berry marmalade and black cherries with vanilla wafers. Dense honey on the nose, very sweet smell with a dark chocolate edge. Freshly varnished wood.

t: follows nose; deep berry jam and even more buttercream. Not very sweet and is quite savoury and dry with walnuts and dark clover honey. Dry finish with cherry cough drops and vanilla milk. Full of fruit and milk cocoa. Quality stuff that would give any sherry bomb from Scotland a run for it's money.  [Slightly varies by batch but they all hit the high B+ to A- range]

Blood red color (considerably darker than the other Kavalan releases). The nose has sweet cherry, spice, borderline amounts of alcohol (but not too much), obvious sherry notes, lots of fruit generally -- rich luscious fruit. The palate is interesting with some spice and leaves that dry prickly sherry/wine feeling on the top of my mouth. Great finish, that leaves some of the berry and hits with a decent punch. Cask #S060710017, 58.6%, bottled 2012.01.17. [1/5/14]

Fuji

N: Oily dark sherry notes with sweet dessert/ cake.  Cherry marmalade, dark berries, prunes and chocolate.

P: Waxy dense mouthfeel.  Raisins, charred cinnamon, toasted raisin bread, fudge, and pomegranate.  Becomes very dry/ astringent midpalate

F: Bitter dark chocolate with caramelized berries.  Flashes of pepper spice as well.
