N: Light, somewhat floral with a touch of confectioner's sugar. Also a bit white wine-like. A little wood, some light peppery spicy; lemony notes emerge. Over time more vanilla emerges; a faint touch of leather too.

P: Enters a touch bitter from the wood; gives way rather quickly to maltiness and some white pepper. A faintly floral top note; the heat picks up. A little lemon curd and a touch of ginger.

F: Dry initially, a touch of wood, some white pepper and plenty of malt; a touch of vanilla, a little hay and some straight-up barley. Has  aslightly root vegetable note at the end. Quite lasting.

This benefits tremendously from some time in the glass. To me it starts a bit sour and weird but the air helps settle it down and focus it. While it does develop nicely, it doesn't quite overcome the negative impression for me.

Nose: Malty, dry grass

Palate: Malty, a bit salty, surprisingly coastal with salt water notes

Finish: Earthy, salty.

Overall: This reinforces for me how much I like St. Magdalene; it packs a lot of flavor and has a satisfyingly malty profile. Good stuff
