N: Sweet nose - bubblegum up front, wood, light clay and earthiness. Light vanilla, a touch of marshmallow. Perfect wood.
P: Nice medium entry, moderately sweet. Bubblegum again in spades on the palate; light wood, gentle heat. Light maple syrup.
F: Gentle heat, lightly astringent wood. A touch of bubblegum, some oak, a little black cherry. Faint hint of peanuts and a little grassiness as it fades.
This is not an everyday drinker for me, but the nose and palate really did it for me in this particular tasting.
Orange-copper color. I have always loved the Van Winkle noses and this fits right in my wheelhouse: vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, and a little oak. On the tongue this is more straightforward, a little bite and a fair amount of wood. A tad bitter too, but not in a bad way. Has a good long finish. 2009 Release. [1/14/13]
