This Port Ellen is quite shy. Smells of warm peat , ash, citrus with faint medicinal notes. More of the coastal ocean breeze smells peek through as it sits and you grow accustom to the peat. Starts off smokey with citrus that tastes watered down (almost like dilute lemonade). Nutmeg , black licorice and BBQ notes follow the mellow smokiness. The peat emerges in full force on the finish and hangs around.
As stated above, this PE is rather timid and I initially thought it to be too light and weak. But the peat seemed to kick up a couple of notches on the finish. That left a great aftertaste that kept you wanting more. I think this would have been a stunner at a higher ABV.
