NOSE Like I said above this whiskey just explodes with barley and there are strong hints of alfalfa and what can only be described as hay. It smells like a farm, but without the animal poo. Once the waves of barley diminish there come some hints of vanilla, lemon and molasses.
PALATE Big barley followed by earthy waves of alfalfa. At first this just completely overwhelms the palate and you can’t taste anything else. It’s not unpleasant, but it is a bit overwhelming. However, once you get past that there are some sweet notes of toffee, molasses, graham crackers and a touch of fruitiness arrive and mix things up.
FINISH
This to me was the best part. After the barley had settled and the sweet notes retreated all that was left was a fantastic wheat toast like aftertaste that had me immediately pouring another glass.
This whiskey is weird, funky, different and interesting. I was surprised at how much I liked it.
