Noses of smokey bbq briquettes, diesel, and sweet toasted oats. The vanilla sweetness from the bourbon cask really shines here. Oily on the palate with the citrus and cinnamon spice kicking things off. Turns a bit dry on the mid palate and has a long finish with darker bitter notes that seem to change from charred meats to black coffee grinds. Great structure and something that changes as it sits on your palate. B+/A-
Sometimes I'm enjoying a whisky so much that I don't want to spoil the fun by doing notes on it. This is now my 3rd attempt.
Fresh-cut sawdust in the nose, like when it's been toasted from blade friction. A huge smoke bomb to be sure, but full of powdered-sugar donuts. And a little coffee grounds. Which continue to blast through on the palate -- that coffee initially, then the rest.
This is good-to-excellent and something I definitely want to own. Hot and young but very tasty. For those wondering if you should buy this, if you can take the heat and the peat, then hurry up! B+/A-
n: waxed tropical fruits, motor oil, charred plastic, and smoke from a picnic. Has a creamy oatmeal and raisins nose with an ever present smoke from wet driftwood.
t: initial sweetness then the salted smoke rumbles in; like a sea-salt caramel latte with heavy foam. Stays sweet but a nice wood char/smoke throughout and an interesting hint of lime zest. This is quite delicious in all the different flavours from BBQ smoke to seasalt to caramel sweetness. [B+/A-]
