Gentle smoke in the nose, with stone fruits and that Ardbeg mustyness. Lemon, chardonnay, oak, a little plastic.
Yeah that's a nice palate, a peppery-smoke sweetness with lemon-apple notes. Something like freezer-burn thing in the finish. More on coal as it opens up.
I don't mean to impune Douglas Laing, but this is one of those Platinum bottlings where they're just jacking up the price because it's Ardbeg, and 20 years old, and… well yeah. Regardless, a nice and gentler Ardbeg.
...oh wait only 81 bottles? Lemme taste this again... Oh yeah, now this tastes much rarer! Same grade.
