n: Fruit orchard. There's a lot of floral stuff going on.
p: Shazzam! Condensed peaches with a sort of generic citrus tang. Jolly rancher. Hint of salted earth. The finish sticks decently but I can't get over how I feel I'm still breathing scotch afterwards.
I think its lack of complexity keeps it from the A range, but seriously, bravo to Talisker. This is a DEAL at $80 shipped from Europe.
Talisker... the United States wants some.
Easy B+
Retasted Blind -January 2012
n: Flowers and pencil sharpener shavings.
p: Chewy. Floral and greens. Musty firewood. The organic malt.
N: Slightly buttery in a way that reminds me of some Broras ('77 especially); gentle peat. Reasonably strong on the nose. Light hay, mildly sooty. Malty and mildly musty. Some slight fruitiness in the far off distance, maybe a bit of pineapple? Water brings the fruit somewhat closer to the forefront.
P: Quite warm, good, rich peat smoke, slightly buttery, lightly malty underneath. Fruity in the background. Spicy - almost a chili oil quality. With water it's more malty, less overtly peaty but faintly rubbery.
F: Hot! Peat and smoke, malt. Spicy with the chili oil again. Faintly ashy, ever so slightly rubbery.
This one is big and bold. Water tames it a bit; it's almost too big otherwise. One to warm up with on a cold night. The high heat on the palate doesn't sit right for me and keeps this just off B+. Personal choice there.
Nice, moderately sweet, and sharp. Peaty smoke flavors and lemon-pepper. Salty ocean notes in the finish, with some unfortunate soapy stuff. Uncomplex but tasty. B/B+
