Nose: Whoa, give it a minute and don't bury your nose in the glass. Dark belgian chocolate over orange candy, fresh vulcanized rubber. A bit of Christmas spices.
Palate: Intense. Dark chocolate, tar, roses. Runs hot and burns going down (coming from a Cask Strength guy.) Red hots. Spice monster! Too much going on. A little water allows a butteryness to come through.
Finish: exhale for a bit of ginger and cinnamon. Lingers well.
Overall good. Damn good. This might need a little time to open up a bit. Right now, I'm sensing a complexity much like a fireworks grand finale, but not a complexity that can sit in my mouth and play around like some of the classic fantastic Port Ellens. Maybe a retaste in a month will be different.
N: Blackberry salt water taffy, red flesh from black plums, peat, paraffin wax, grain, wet hay and ash P: peat, black peppers, toasted wheats, plum jam, bitterness from black coffee F: salt mixed with ash, lingering cirtus and black licorice notes
