Strong fruity sherry profile, dominated by apricots, then plumbs, and a hint of unpeeled kiwi which hits on both the nose and palate. The sherry is the transformational type, it's really melded with the malt. Finishes sweet with a nice silky mouth feel. I tried this at a master class at Whisky Live Los Angeles and thankfully the room was not full, because that meant there were extra glasses of this sitting about the room! It was a frenzy.
Nice complexity and depth, greatly mouth-filling. Blast of dry sherry that you'd expect, mainly. But it's really bordering on too tannic.
RETASTE: Been almost a couple years since I've tried this. Palate is much sweeter than I recall, and though it dries out in the finish, I wouldn't call it too tannic. Bigger fan now. Rating upgraded from B to B+, I would definitely want to own a bottle of this.
I've had this a couple of times now, always in non-condusive-to-notes-settings. One thing is always clear though, it's always good but never great. Light sherry and evergreen. Best I can do unless you want to give me some more...
N: sherried peach flavored bubblegum, exotic woods and spices, blackberries, with a hint of smoke P: tart peaches/ nectarines, pear cores, wood and raw almonds F: a refreshing sherry finish with dark fruits
A very balanced and complex japanese whisky. The sherry is very clean and present but doesn’t overpower the lighter notes
