Palate: This is a wierd one. It's common for me to find a great malt with a disappointing finish. Here the finish is everything. For the first second it's just plain faint charcoal. Then exhale... magic. The finish has everything a Port Ellen has (butterscotch, redhots, sweetness), on a base of fresh tar.
Nose of peat smoke and bubblegum. Palate of delicious peat smoke and bubblegum. Finish of more peat smoke and bubblegum. Yep, there ya go. But wow, I like this a lot! Massively drinkable for something so peaty. Excellent! It's just great how this maintains such superb drinkability while being massively peated.
(Note to Andy: although the finish does drop off quickly while adding nothing, that just makes this all the more drinkable for me, in the best of ways).
The nose on this was very dark (tar and asphalt) mixed in with lots of smoke and peat. But there was also a sweet maltiness to it. I had a wood fire going while drinking this and it held its own.
