Okay, so Laphroaig is doing something different: batches instead of eternal consistency. Here's the first batch. For those who love LphCS, don't fret, the changes were very subtle. This review was done side by side with the old LphCS to get an accurate contrast between the two
For referene, notes for the non-batch LphCS were medicinal, tar and pepper.
The batch 001 was similar but there were subtle differences. Firstly, it didn't feel as hot even though the ABV was higher. It starts smoother and rather than tar and pepper, I was reminded of a smoldering campfire with a tiny hint of butterscotch.
I'd give it a B/B+. It is a slight improvement on the predecessor (but they are VERY similar)
This is a monster. Lots of great briney medicinal qualities you love in the regular 10, but this is amped up. Add some water to this and it brings out more of the spice and some fruit.
