Nose burns - add water! With water the nose is floral with some soft fruits in the mix. Apples. Palate is easy and weaker than expected/hoped without much complexity. Some wood resin and a mintiness than came through towards the end. Finish is numbing and a bit sweet/sugary. Almost made the B but the lack of complexity kept it from making it a notch higher.
N: A strange herbal sherry. P: Surprising for it's lack of sweetness relative to the nose, a very dry orange extract with some tea notes. F: Gets more herbal and leafy. Good.
Nose is lightly fruity, with a tinge of solvent, nice though plain. Palate is pleasant with a strong kick of nondescript cask strength spice. But is just such a plain whisky that there's not much to say.
As I've noted elsewhere, these 1989-1990 Cadenhead's bottlings seem to be typical of a "house style" that's full of ehhh-y cask-strength ehhh-ness.
