Cask MM523. Bottled in 2000. Bottle in photo is 70cl, bottle tasted was 750ml US release. Interestingly, a 10 year version was also released that had this same cask number. Did they fill half and leave the rest in the cask for another year?
N: Very bright nose, apples and melon on top of green wood. Smells a bit like dry champagne. P: Big fruity attack, very clean and light. F: Gets tangy and stings the tongue for a surprisingly long time, fades on a light oak note. Interesting. I opened this bottle a few weeks ago and found some disagreeable notes (moldy wet paper) but those are no longer present. Without them, this is a tasty and refreshing malt. Enjoyable enough that I had a second glass!!
Nose of pears, apples, traces of vinegar and sake. Palate is very fruity, rather sweet, with a strong undercurrent of spice. Something floral is in here too, though it's not great, like you're actually eating some sort of cheap girly perfume. Dries out in the finish and the oak becomes too strong. Initially this was quite tasty and very drinkable, but it gets woody and tiresome, shades of chewing on old woodchips, with something vaguely soapy too. As bad as those flaws sound, it's still drinkable and fine.
