The Yoichi Distillery is one of Nikka’s two malt distilleries. It uses imported Scottish peat, and distills on old-school coal-fired stills. 

Green wet grass, paper smoke, pine needles, and mineral. Slight earthy aspect of mushroom and forest. Burnt caramel, black pepper, seafoam, and more dark oak wood dust in the thin, quick finish. The damp forest and tease of martime smoke are very faint in this. Not particularly complex like the age stated version.
