This Taketsuru NAS was released in September 2013 as a Pure Malt, sherry-wood finished limited edition of 2,900 bottles. The term “Pure Malt” indicates that this does not contain any grain whisky. Taketsuru is named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka, one of the two major Japanese whisky-producing companies.
n: malty and sweet, fudge, sugary orange slices, vanilla custard, subdued oak. Very inviting and rich with tawny port and dark raisin.
t: red cherry malt and vanilla wafer cookies. Quite fruity and delicious - but cohesive, and the malt never gets overwhelmed. Medium body, not super complex, but it does this quite well and is a great sipping whisky. The nose is fantastic. Hard to believe that this retailed for just 3,500 yen in Japan. I liked this better than the 21, 17 and the 12 year.
