The 2014 edition of Parker's Heritage Collection, a straight wheat whiskey. Batch 1 is 127.4 proof. 13-year-old straight wheat whiskey, bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered. The barrels used for this year’s offering were from the very first run of what later would become Bernheim Original Straight Wheat Whiskey.

Comprised of two small batch dumps & bottled much as it came out of the barrel after 13 years of aging on the top floors of Rickhouse Y on the Heaven Hill property in Bardstown.

Original price around $90.

The nose has soapy bourbon notes, like a bourbon-bubble bath, then a touch of oak. The palate is caramel sweet with a hint of acid that grows into the finish but keeps some wood to balance it out. The finish on the nose is quite nice, like a good, oaky wheated bourbon. Water adds some nice vanilla notes and gives it some wood spice.

This is exactly what you would expect it to be, an oakier, more complex version of Heaven Hill's Bernheim Wheat Whiskey.

n: maple syrup and cold butter on wheat toast. Wet green hay, thick caramel, + rising biscuit dough. Deep in there is soft cinnamon and peppermint stick candy with musty old oak (good thing).

t: more spice and cinnamon than what I was expecting. This has a huge oaky heart that gives way to a wheat sweetness once you get past the first intense sip. Chewy black plums and herbal spices in the long finish. It's a bold, full-flavored whiskey with a lot of oak and surprising spice.

I always liked Bernheim, especially for the value, but this takes it to a more extreme level. Not convinced it's worth the extra $ though...  [B.]
