We drained a bottle of this in Vegas, and I spent an inordinate amount of time just nosing it over and over again. Tons o' sherry, raisins, figs, dates and all that stuff. Walnuts. Then wonderful cardamom and nutmeg, something sweet and leathery, now cinnamon… this just keeps evolving… now glue, French onion soup, and wood mulch. So, so inviting.
Palate is outstanding. A wallop of big, varied flavors you'd expect from the nose, and a surprising level of sweetness for a moment. I drank a lot of this and on every glass, I didn't want to take notes. I just wanted to drink more. So that's what I did. "Beefy" is what I kept thinking at times.
Finish is drying but not too much so, long and kinda mild, in a way that makes me quickly go back for more.
Here's what sucks about this: the price. That's it. Otherwise it's stellar stuff. Just as soon as I start to think it may lack dimension, it reveals another. Incredibly drinkable for something so luscious.
Brand new Italian leather jacket....mixed with prunes and un-sweetened raisins. Deep oak resin and dark sherry goodness. This was terrific and Adam is right - the nose is simply stellar. have tried a sister cask (C#700 - Taiwan Import) and found things very similar. In fact Cask #700 won the Non-Plus-Ultra Award as the overall winner of the 2010 Malt Maniacs awards for which I was a Jury member. It did not make the very top of my list (I gave it an 89) but it was still excellent. As I recall, This one is that much better.
