voted "World's Best Pure Malt Whisky" @ 2012 World Whiskies Award. A blend using malt whiskies matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks for at least 17 years from both the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries.
n: leather and red berries (more sherry cask influence). Floral with nice element of peat smoke and cinnamon.
t: malty medium body with nice vanilla oak. Dired ginger and a hint of sea salt. The red fruits appear in the middle with some spice. Satisfying floral finish with smoke to create a nice balance of elements.
Olive oil, stale white wine, sharp citrus zest from lemon peel. There's a hint of lingering smoke. Light peat initially followed by sweet wine, toasted baguette and dark preserved fruit. Finish drops leaving astringent graphite.
Overall this is fine but there are mineral and graphite notes that I don't particularly enjoy. I actually prefer the Nikka 12 over this.
