N: Peat but with something odd and synthetic, maybe a bit metallic, sour lemon. P: Big dry peat, quite sooty. F: Lots o' smoke. This is a good peated malt but its just not the profile I like, too sooty.
Palate:Sweet up front with a strong ashy peat behind it.The peat notes are Laphroaigy but with a sweetness to it. (Note - these notes were taken when tasting blind; I didn't know it was actually a Laphroaig when a I tasted it).
Nose is earthy and peaty more than smokey, though there's definitely smoke here. Old books and dusty cabinets.
Palate is really great. As suggested by the nose, earthy, smokey, which plays off a background of sweet vanilla-honey. Antiseptic aspects. Tobacco. Great stuff. B+/A-
