Nose:  Sharp sherry and new car polyurethane vapor, ripe apples.
Palate:  Wow, a BIG kick.  Given how dark it is, I'm not surprised.  Caramel and dark fudge.  Sweet, but not too much so.  Old wet wood.  Almost an A.
 
Retaste 5/21/10 (blind):  Still an A/A-.  Hint of cherry oak.

This one had a lot of age on the nose, oak and mildew (in a good way, like a damp cave, not in a bad way, like old sweat socks).  On the palate it was a huge sherry bomb and a bit out of balance. Still, in your face enough to be interesting.  B/B+

SHERRY BOMB BOMB BOMB with assorted goodness. Longest sherried finish ever. Assault of red, purple, and port flavors. Generally quite reminiscent of Macallan 18 and 25. WINNER!

My favorite profile of a sherry explosion.  Chocolates and wood varnish/resin/acetone notes.  Great one and likely near an A.

Big big big sherry with minty resinous wood.   Huge whisky, almost over the top.   Finishes with some bitter chocolate.

N: sweet syrupy wood, fruity marmalade, toasted oats with underlying sherry and white peppers…umeboshi (japanese salted plums)        
P: deep and robust sweet black cherries and black grape skins, light maltiness followed by raw walnuts            
F: lingering grapefruit rind with light citrus and a bite of smoke            

 

Retaste 2017: A-

N: Sweet tart sherry nose with exotic wood, brewed coffee grind and distant smoke.
P:  See above.  Nicely balanced between sherry sweetness and dry bitter dark chocolate stuff.  Oily mouthfeel.  Chocolate covered gummy bear and raspberry.
F: Lasting lingering finish with smoked peppers and spice.

n: cherries on toffee cake, dark chocolate, dense Black Forest cake dessert.

 

t: intense sherry of scorched dried strawberries, burnt tobacco. Initial is red fruit that fades to darker oaky flavours and dry sherry in the finish. Very bold and savoury. Delicious sherry bomb.
